Shubman Gill, the vice-captain of Team India, was left out of the starting lineup for the second Twenty20 International of the series against Sri Lanka. In the opening game of the series on Saturday, Gill had an outstanding performance at bat, scoring a rapid 34 off just 16 deliveries after India had batted first. His aggressive beginning, together with outstanding efforts from Suryakumar Yadav and Yashasvi Jaiswal, was crucial in helping India post a huge 213/7 in 20 overs.

Gill was forced to leave the second Twenty20 International, though, after Indian captain Suryakumar disclosed that the young batter had woken up with a spasm in his neck. Sanju Samson, a batter and wicketkeeper, takes Gill’s spot in the Indian XI, though Rishabh Pant is probably going to wear the gloves in the Pallekele match.

However, Gill was forced to leave the second Twenty20 International after Indian captain Suryakumar disclosed that the young batter had a neck spasm when he woke up. Gill is replaced in the Indian XI by wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson; however, Rishabh Pant is probably going to wear the gloves during the Pallekele match.

Gill was selected as the Indian captain for the T20I series against Zimbabwe by the BCCI, despite the fact that he was a member of the reserves during the T20 World Cup until the group stages. After Gautam Gambhir was named the team’s head coach, Gill was named vice-captain for both ODIs and T20Is. The youthful opener led the side to a commanding 4-1 series win in the African nation.

Despite having a great start, Sri Lanka struggled in the run-chase; after reaching 140/1 in 14 overs, the Islanders lost nine wickets in a matter of 30 runs, with Riyan Parag taking three wickets in just eight balls and Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh taking two each.
