The Indian cricket community praised shooters Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh for winning their country’s second medal at the Paris Olympics, with Sachin Tendulkar setting the example. At Chateauroux’s shooting range on Tuesday, Mannu and Sarabjot won bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, defeating Lee Wonoho and Oh Yeh Jin, a Korean duo, 16–10.
Prior to her, pre-Independence British-Indian athlete Norman Pritchard had won two silver medals at the 1900 Olympics in the 200-meter sprint and 200-meter hurdle events.
Additionally, Manu became just the third Indian to win two Olympic medals in individual events, following wrestler Sushil Kumar and badminton ace PV Sindhu.
Even though Tuesday’s medal represents a significant victory for women’s sports in the nation, Sarabjot also feels vindication for missing out on the men’s 10m air pistol final due to one fewer inner 10. Sarabjot finished ninth on Saturday with a score of 577.
Tendulkar wrote on X to congratulate Sarabjot and Manu, saying, “You two have brought our medal no. 2! 🥉 to @realmanubhaker & @Sarabjotsingh30 for taking first place in the mixed team 10m air pistol event. The whole country is erect and proud! A special congratulations goes out to @realmanubhaker, who made history by becoming the first Indian to win two medals at the same Olympics since independence!“
