(July 26), According to reports, the BCCI has arranged a meeting with all franchise owners for next week to talk about the direction of the IPL.
There will be major alterations to team compositions as the upcoming Indian Premier League will take place prior to a mega-auction. In addition, the BCCI and franchise owners are scheduled to meet in order to plan the upcoming season, according to Sportstar.
Franchises are anxious for clarification on important issues like the player retention policy and the viability of the right-to-match (RTM) option because a massive auction is scheduled for December.
But with the arrival of the Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants in 2022, RTM was eliminated, forcing the eight remaining franchises to disassemble their current rosters and begin anew.
According to the report, franchises are calling for the return of the RTM option as the 2024 season draws near. Many team owners contend that it promotes balance throughout the league and enables them to reclaim valuable players.
Retention Policy
A key element of the Indian Premier League’s team-building approach has always been the player retention policy. Teams were allowed to keep up to five players in 2018. This number was lowered to four in 2022 with the addition of two new teams, enabling the new teams to choose from a wider pool of talent.
The teams are pushing hard to raise the cap at eight players retained for the 2024 season. The owners of the team think that keeping a bigger core of players will improve team stability and enable them to capitalize on the synergies and fan base they already have.
Impact player likely to stay
Many Indian cricket players, such as captain of the ODI and Test teams Rohit Sharma and batting legend Virat Kohli, have called for the removal of the Impact Player rule; however, Sportstar reports that the rule may be here to stay. According to the report, franchises and stakeholders feel that matches are now more intense because of the Impact Player rule.
