(July 24), According to reports, Hardik Pandya was absent from Team India’s first meeting with Suryakumar Yadav as their new T20I captain.
It’s anticipated that Indian cricket will be quite interesting over the coming months. With Suryakumar Yadav taking over as T20I captain and Gautam Gambhir as coach, Indian cricket is undergoing a leadership change. Although Gambhir’s appointment was anticipated, there was a degree of surprise when Suryakumar was named captain instead of Hardik Pandya.
Though Hardik was supposed to be Rohit Sharma’s replacement in T20Is, his unwelcome flirtation with injury served as a disincentive, while Surya’s rise, following appropriate feedback from the dressing room made him the clear choice.
Many questions were raised by the unexpected sudden captaincy move. What will happen to Hardik next? Will it impact his relationship with Surya, his longtime teammate for the Mumbai Indians and India? After being left out of the Sri Lanka tour, when will Hardik rejoin the ODI team? Everything appeared normal when Hardik joined the Indian team and gave Surya a big, brotherly hug, but a recent development coming out of Sri Lanka raises the possibility that there is much more to it than that.
According to a scribe for Dainik Jagran who cited an insider, Hardik was absent from Suryakumar’s team meeting on Monday, the day he took office as India’s official Twenty20 international captain.
“The Indian team’s first practise in Sri Lanka took place today. According to the source who was present, Hardik Pandya was left out of the first team call that new captain Suryakumar Yadav made to address matters. The reason he wasn’t there at the time is currently unknown. But he showed up later for the practice session,” the scribe wrote on X.
