(July 15), The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy is slated to be hosted by Pakistan. The eight-team competition is slated to begin on February 19 in Karachi and conclude on March 9 in Lahore, according to press reports. Due to the political tensions between the two nations, it is quite likely that India will not visit Pakistan and that its matches will instead take place in Dubai.
Geo News Urdu reported that Pakistan has threatened to boycott the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, if India does not travel to Pakistan the following year, amid reports of India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stated in a report released on Sunday, July 14, that it will not stray from its policy of hosting all Champions Trophy matches in Pakistan. The board will also stick to this position during the ICC meeting that takes place in Sri Lanka the following week. Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the PCB, is anticipated to attend the ICC meeting, which is set to take place in Colombo from July 19–22.
According to sources, Pakistan will continue to hold all Champions Trophy matches in Pakistan and would continue to refer to its events as “Pakistan’s event in Pakistan.”
All of the Champions Trophy teams—aside from India—have reportedly played in Pakistan, so the country’s argument for not visiting Pakistan is tenuous. Pakistan will not visit India for the 2026 T20 World Cup if India continues to restrict travel.
The last time India visited Pakistan for the Asia Cup was in July 2008. Pakistan has visited India twice in the past 16 years: once for the bilateral series (in 2012–2013) and again for the ODI World Cup in 2023 and the T20 World Cup (2016).
India was supposed to play in the Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan; however, that trip fell through, and the team’s matches were rescheduled for Sri Lanka.
