2nd T20I: India defeat Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in rain-reduced match to clinch series

(July 29), 2nd T20I Rain had two effects on the game: first, it caused a 45-minute start delay without resulting in any overs lost. It then halted the game for an additional seventy minutes.

With nine balls left in the rain-shortened second Twenty20 match, wrist spinner Ravi Bishnoi claimed 3-26 as India defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets to seize an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Left-arm spinner Axar Patel (2-30) provided encouragement to Bishnoi on Sunday, and pacers Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya shared four wickets as Sri Lanka was bowled out for 161-9 in 20 overs.

India accelerated to 81-3 in 6.3 overs thanks to a stunning 22 not out from Hardik Pandya off nine balls. The first Twenty20 was won by India by 43 runs. On Tuesday, the third and final Twenty20 match will take place in Pallekele as well. Three one-day international matches between the two teams are also scheduled.

Earlier, after India won the delayed toss and chose to bowl, Pathum Nissanka gave Sri Lanka another strong start. Shubman Gill, the opener, was excluded because of a neck spasm. His successor was Sanju Samson.

Nissanka finished with five fours and 32 off of 24. Nissanka and Kusal Perera added 54 runs off of 36 balls for the second wicket after opener Kusal Mendis was out for 10. With two sixes and six fours, he blasted his way to 53 off 34. In the tenth over, Bishnoi made the breakthrough by leg before wicketing Nissanka.

With Kamindu Mendis (26), Perera added another fifty runs, but Bishnoi’s return brought about yet another collapse of the middle order.

Before that, Pandya made a breakthrough by dismissing both Mendis and Perera, who were both caught in the deep by Rinku Singh.

Subsequently, Bishnoi dismissed Wanindu Hasaranga for a golden duck and dismissed Dasun Shanaka for another first-ball. In the seventeenth over, the player of the match was on a hat trick, but he was dismissed.
